The Glass Bangle

Being a Woman

Darkness

This was a child’s toy in Harappan times. It’s displayed at the Heritage museum in Gurgaon. The photographer seemed to have been in a sombre mood when he clicked this. I found an element of menace in this and so my words went that way.

I’m shadow. I’m darkness.

I live in you. I grow in you.

I thrive on your bitterness.

Every smidgeon of hate

Every thought of malice

Feeds me and strengthens my soul.

Your progeny I fear

Innocence and love

Corrode and consume me.

Keep me away from them

Keep me locked in your mind

Together we’ll watch the world burn.

It’s election season here in the U.S. So much loathing, so much bitterness, so much fear and anger spewing out everywhere. I’ve been thinking about the shadow a lot, and trying not to be sucked into it.

Susanna, even here in India, tempers are running high and both the Leftists and the Right wingers are at each others throats. There’s such a pressing need for voices of reason. I can understand what you are going through.

Wow, this is strong. You can really feel the darkness in yourself when you read it.
